The University of Hawaii will announce on Saturday that Gib Arnold will be the new men's basketball coach, sources told KITV.

Arnold would take over for Bob Nash who was fired earlier this month after three seasons of leading the Rainbow Warriors.

The team went 10-20 overall and 3-13 in the Western Athletic Conference this season. Nash's record as head coach was 35-54, 15-33 in the WAC.

Arnold has spent the last five years as the assistant coach of USC. Before joining USC, Arnold spent two seasons as the head coach at the College of Southern Idaho. Prior to his stint at CSI, Arnold was an assistant at Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Vanderbilt, Utah Valley State College and Provo High School.

Arnold is expected to arrive on Oahu on Saturday. The school is working out a time to make the announcement.

UH Athletics Director Jim Donovan had said he wanted to make a decision soon so the new coach could have an impact on recruiting before the April National Letter of Intent signings.

Arnold is the son of former UH basketball coach Frank Arnold, who led the team in 1985-1987. Gib Arnold graduated from Punahou School and was a state all-star guard.
