The University of Hawaii on Tuesday announced it has hired a new women's volleyball associate coach.

Punahou School alum and former professional beach volleyball player Scott Wong joined the staff of head coach Dave Shoji.

Wong grew up in Pearl City and was a standout for the Buff 'n Blue before playing in college at Pepperdine University.

He spent the 2006 season as a volunteer assistant with the Wahine.

Wong spent four seasons as an assistant coach with Pepperdine University before spending one season as associate head coach at the University of San Francisco.

"We're excited to bring Scott back to the Rainbow Wahine ohana," Shoji said. "He brings a fresh outlook to our program after extensive work on the men's side of volleyball. He's a seasoned recruiter and brings tactical expertise from many different views of the game."

Wong earned AVCA All-America honors three times and was named the AVCA National and MPSF Freshman of the Year in 1998.
