HONOLULU -- The world's premiere surf contest went off Tuesday, with the running of the Quiksilver: In Memory of Eddie Aikau.California native Greg Long captured the event with a perfect score of 100.The contest started at about 8 a.m.During one of the early sessions, nine-time world champion Kelly Slater scored 98. That kept him in the lead for most of the day.There were a few lulls during the day without surf at times, but in the afternoon the waves picked up.That is when Long rode an amazing wave.Long scored the richest payday in surfing at $55,000.Eddie Aikau Leaderboard:

In the event's 25-year history, 2009 is only the eighth time it has been run. It was the first time in five years, because to run the "Eddie," Waimea Bay needs to consistent, with 20- to 25-foot waves.
