Former University of Hawaii football coach June Jones is scheduled to attend a Tuesday news conference involving the Hawaii Bowl, sources told KITV.

Jones is now the head coach of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs. The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl is expected to extend an invitation to the Conference USA team at 1 p.m. CST.

The Mustangs finished the regular season 7-5, becoming bowl eligible for the first time in 25 years.

The Hawaii Bowl is on Christmas Eve at Aloha Stadium. Organizers are hoping for a UH, SMU match-up.

After losing six straight, Hawaii has won its last four games, including a big victory over Navy Saturday night to keep their post-season hopes alive.

The Warriors must still beat Wisconsin in order to qualify for an invitation.

Jones left UH after leading the team to its only Bowl Championship Series match-up against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in 2008.
