The University of Hawaii has reported to the NCAA the improper use of two Rainbow Wahine volleyball players in advertisements published by The Honolulu Advertiser.

Hawaii athletic director Jim Donovan said there will be no penalties for the two students depicted in an ad for a car dealership in the volleyball program distributed at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The ad was also published in the Advertiser on Aug. 29.

The NCAA prohibits the use of photos or likeness of current student-athletes.

The ad used altered photos of two Wahine players, Aneli Cubi-Otineru and Jayme Lee. Both players have signed documents saying that the use of their likeness was without their knowledge or consent.

Donovan said about 18,000 copies of the program were destroyed.
