Deirdre's Diary: Olympic space bubble

LONDON -

It's trainmageddon in London today.

Today is expected to be the busiest day in Underground history since it's the first work day of the Games.

The news anchors, or presenters as they're called here, couldn't stop talking about how bad it might be today on the subway.

It's busy.

Packed in a "sardines in a can" type busy.

Packed in a "does anyone shower around here" kind of busy.

Packed in a "wow, I'm going to pretend you didn't just do that" kind of busy.

The "tube" as it's called, is the fastest way to get across the Olympic host city.

Domi and I take it everywhere and have gotten pretty adept at switching trains, guessing where we're going, and recalibrating when our internal GPS fails.

But, getting used to the lack of personal space isn't instant.

I find myself longing for an Olympic space bubble.

I'm pretty sure the queen has one. I'm more sure I'm not getting one.

London is packed and I'm happy to be packed in and contributing to the Olympic spirit, which now that I think about it, smells a lot like teen spirit.
