Moraga, CA -- (Sports Network) - Omar Samhan poured in a career-high 29 points and ripped down 12 boards to power the Saint Mary's Gaels past the Eastern Washington Eagles, 85-65, in a non-conference battle at McKeon Pavilion in Moraga. Patrick Mills added 19 points and four steals for the Gaels (26-6), who added this bout to their slate last week to prove that Mills has fully recovered from a broken hand and that the team deserves an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Diamon Simpson put forth 15 points and five boards, and Carlin Hughes had 10 points in the win. Brandon Moore guided EWU (12-18) with 15 points and five boards, while Benny Valentine had 11. Chris Busch and Andy Genao each chipped in with 10 points for the Eagles, who failed to even qualify for the Big Sky Tournament. The Gaels dropped in 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc in the first half, taking a 38-31 lead to the intermission. SMC used a 19-5 run and 19 points for Samhan in the second half to pull away for the 20-point win. The Gaels, who lost to Gonzaga in the finals of the West Coast Conference Tournament, controlled the boards 38-27 on the night.
