(Sports Network) - Frank Turner dropped in a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight caroms to lead the ninth-seeded Canisius Golden Griffins past the eighth-seeded Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds, 74-68, in the first round of the 28th annual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Turner went 9-of-13 from the floor for Canisius (11-19), which will meet top- seeded Siena in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Greg Logins notched a double- double with 19 points and 13 rebounds in the win, while Julius Coles had 18 points.

The Griffins ended the first half with an 18-6 run, opening a 33-30 lead at the intermission.

The second half was also closely contested and the teams went back and forth before Turner gave Canisius the lead for good on a bucket with three minutes left, as the Griffins claimed the six-point victory.

The Griffins made good on 53.3 percent of their attempts from the floor, while holding the Greyhounds to just a 32 percent shooting performance on the night.
