Cubit Signs Five-Year Contract With Western Michigan

POSTED: 6:32 pm HST December 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Western Michigan head football coach Bill Cubit signed a new five-year contract that will go into effect in 2009, the school announced Tuesday.

Cubit's new deal yields a $225,000 base salary with a guaranteed salary package worth $375,000. In four years with the Broncos, Cubit is 29-19 and has led WMU to two bowl games in the past three seasons.

"Western Michigan football has had enormous success during the four years Bill Cubit has been our head coach and we are so very proud and excited to announce that he will be leading our Broncos into the future with the signing of this new contract," commented WMU athletic director Kathy Beauregard. "Our team's success has been realized on the field, with the third nine-win season in program history and second postseason bowl appearance in three seasons, in the classroom, breaking the team GPA record for the third-straight season, and in the community, giving over 3,500 hours back to Kalamazoo."

Cubit and the Broncos' 2008 season ended on a down note, however, as the program was denied their unprecedented 10th win of the season on Tuesday in a 38-14 drubbing against Rice in the Texas Bowl.
