2008 HONOLULU -- The University of Hawaii will name Greg McMackin the Warriors' new football coach on Wednesday, sources close to the process told KITV.The successor to June Jones will be named on Wednesday, sources said.McMackin, Warriors was the defensive coordinator twice under Jones. Both times McMackin helped to lead Hawaii to a Western Athletic Conference title.McMackin will interview for the job on Tuesday afternoon. After posting the vacancy the day after Jones announced he was heading to Southern Methodist University, the school assembled a selection committee. That group convenes on Wednesday to conduct interviews. It is not known how many of the 30 or so applicants will meet with the committee, but McMackin has emerged as the clear favorite of both the players and assistant coaches.KITV learned that current associate head coach George Lumpkin will also be interviewed.Lumpkin has been at UH 38 years, 35 as an assistant under five different head coaches. After conducting the interviews, it is expected the selection committee will make its recommendation on Tuesday night. All indications point toward McMackin, at a salary of about $1.1 million per year. That would be equivalent to the first offer UH made to Jones in trying to get him to stay. Copyright 2008 by KITV.com All rights reserved.
