ESPN Reports SMU Offers Jones Job

Southern Methodist University is interested in hiring University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones, according to a report by ESPN.

ESPN's Joe Schad reported that the Mustangs are preparing to offer Jones between $1.5 million and $1.7 million a year to take over the Conference USA program.

Jones will be given until Saturday morning to make his decision, according to The SMU Daily Campus.

The contract for Jones' current contract expires in June. Currently the 2007 Western Athletic Conference coach of the year gets paid more than $800,000.

Jones' agent Leigh Steinberg has said to have had no talks of significance with Hawaii Athletics Director Herman Frazier regarding a new deal for Hawaii's all-time-winning head football coach.

Jones returned to Hawaii on Wednesday, a day after Georgia pounded Hawaii 41-10 in the Sugar Bowl.
