Tailgaters beware. Aloha Stadium plans to strictly enforce parking and tailgating rules Saturday at the University of Hawaii Warrior's football game against Charleston Southern.

The tailgating rule is not new. What is new is police, sheriffs and stadium security will start enforcing the tailgating policy.

That means no more tents, grills or folding chairs taking up parking stalls.

"Based on the number of complaints that we've had, and what we saw happening at the last football game we just cannot allow that to continue to happen," Aloha Stadium spokeswoman Lois Manin said.

The tailgating rules apply to all stadium lots. Officials want to make room for as many cars as possible.

There are about 8,000 parking stalls at Aloha Stadium with 50,000 seats inside.

"And sold out or not sold out, we do have a parking and a space problem," Manin said.

Some football fans support the stricter enforcement.

"It's good," football fan Junior Liulama said. "More room for other people to park. It doesn't make sense that you put your tent in another parking spot and the other people are going round and round."

"I think they should open them up because everyone should have a right to one parking stall," Joe Vele said.

Other fans said the enforcement of the rule ruins the traditional atmosphere.

"I think they should just leave it alone the way it is," Motu Tauaefa said. "Because it's been a tradition for so long."

Stadium officials suggested attending the tailgate party hosted by Center Plate between poles 1 and 29. They also suggested tailgating with others who have their own cars.

"They can actually create a small area without taking up an extra stall," Manin said.

Officials said fans should feel free to use the space in front or back of your car.

"We don't want to be unpleasant about it, we don't want to be forceful about it, but we're going to have to enforce it to try and make sure that we're accommodating all the vehicles we possibly can," Manin said.

Authorities will warn violators and give them 10 minutes to remove their belongings from parking stalls, officials said. Those who do not comply will be asked to leave stadium property.
