TOLA, Nicaragua -

The Verizon Hawai'i Surf Team entered day four of the 2013 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship tied for first place with Australia, USA, France, Peru and South Africa.

Waves were 3-to-4-feet-high with unorganized conditions at low tide and very clean conditions through mid- to high-tide.

The Boys Under 18 and Boys Under 16 divisions competed on Wednesday and the Verizon Hawai'i Surf Team did an outstanding job winning almost all of its heats. Seth Moniz in the Boys Under 16 division had a stand-out performance.

On Thursday, all team members will compete.

As "ambassadors of aloha," The Verizon Hawaii Surf Team is not only making waves in the competition, but is also bringing the aloha spirit to serve the communities in which they surf. This year the team partnered with a local church in the district of Astillero to donate gently used items brought from Hawaii.  The team arrived in the small fishing town where more than 100 members of the community greeted them.
