HONOLULU -

It's a major league dream come true.

Former University of Hawaii baseball player Kolten Wong, a Hilo native graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii and a first-round draft pick in 2011, has been called up to Major League Baseball by his parent organization, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Wong played for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds at second base this season with a .303 batting average, 10 home runs, 45 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

KITV4 Sports has learned he's leaving the Redbirds out of Denver Thursday night, and is scheduled to be in uniform with the Cardinals Friday night against the Cubs in Chicago.
