HONOLULU -

Rep. K. Mark Takai is leading the charge to reinstate Jim Donovan to his position as athletics director for the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Rich Sheriff as the Stan Sheriff Center Manager.

Takai said Monday he sent a letter to Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple as the president of the UH Manoa Letterwinners Club, a group of former UH Manoa student athletes, asking for Donovan and Sheriff to be reinstated to their former positions.

Takai said he was upset to learn about the reassignment of Donovan after the school's internal investigation cleared him of any wrongdoing.

"Jim Donovan has done a great job as UH Athletic Director," said Takai.  "Jim has brought reinvigorated UH athletics and has dedicated his life to his alma mater.  We can't afford to lose Jim's passion and expertise at this important time of transitions for our athletic program."
