People and businesses hit hard by the wet weather could be allowed to pay their taxes late.

The state Department of Taxation will consider extensions and could waive penalties and interest for people who cannot make payment because of the rain and flooding.

Also, if your employer's withholdings taxes are due Monday and they cannot make the deadline you will get a one-month extension.

People needing an extension need to mark their return with 2008 Oahu, Kauai, Maui Heavy Rains and Flood Relief.

Check the Tax Department's Web site for details about how you qualify for the extension.
