Drew O'Connor isn't looking to buy a wife from among the group of "Tobacco Brides" newly arrived from England. But when the gentlemanly farmer wins one in a game of chance, he's ordered by the governor of the colony to marry the comely chit.

Lady Constance Morrow was kidnapped and forced upon the ship carrying the brides to Virginia Colony, where life is harrowing for women of even the strongest physical and moral constitutions.

Constance is indignant and frightened. Further, she's mortified that she must marry O'Connor, a complete stranger, yet one whose morality and, yes, virile good looks intrigue her.

Will Connie and Drew let down their guards, give in to temptation, and make their marriage of convenience one in truth?

"A Bride Most Begrudging" is a well-written standout, with plot points running the gamut from heartrending to joyful, and sensual tension is marvelous, yet tasteful.

Gist writes lovely romance that celebrates spirituality, deep faith, and the beauty of love and sensuality within committed Christian relationships. Her novels are entertaining and realistic -- refreshing inspirational romance for a new generation of readers of faith.

Gist's newest, "The Measure of a Lady," is available now from Bethany House.
