Sherrilyn Kenyon

AuthorView: Kinley MacGregor

POSTED: 10:19 am HST November 29, 2006

In this week's AuthorView, USA Today bestseller Kinley MacGregor reveals her inspiration, clarifies the best rules to follow, and shares some dish delish about best girlfriend, author Sherrilyn Kenyon. Read on ...

MB: What or who inspired your novel?

KM: Strangely enough, the cover for my "Dream-Hunter" novel.

MB: How so?

KM: While the model does look like Arik (another MacGregor character), he really, really looked like my image of Varian. So staring at that cover helped a lot with getting into Varian's head and character.

MB: What do you like most about your novel?

KM: The fantasy elements. I was never the kind of kid who liked to play by other people's rules. It's why no one would play games with me as a kid. I constantly changed the rules so that it was my way or no way.

Writing fantasy is the same way. As long as it makes sense and has a reason, I can make any rule I want to.

MB: Tell us a little about Sherrilyn Kenyon and how you managed to score a blurb from her on your new book.

KM: Chocolate. Sherri likes chocolate and I bribed her really well.

Seriously though, it started out as a joke. My editor wanted a quote and she asked me who I knew who was a New York Times best-selling paranormal author. I jokingly said Sherrilyn Kenyon and she thought it was a great idea.

MB: Who's your romance hero: dark, brooding bad boy or white knight in shining armor?

KM: Dark, sarcastic bad boy. Never was one to tolerate brooding -- too moody for my tastes. I want someone who cannot only laugh at bad situations, but himself as well.

MB: Answer the question you wish an interviewer would ask.

KM: Q: So how is Brad Pitt doing?

A: Oh you know, it's such a shame that it didn't work out for him and Angelina, but what can I say? He runs around in that "Troy" outfit because he knows I love it so and it inspires me to such great ideas.

Really, he is the best.
