The state says an old Navy landing craft that washed ashore at Sugar Beach on Maui's south shore was removed around 2 a.m. Thursday.

The ship had broken loose from its mooring and was brought to shore by strong winds and currents on Tuesday.

The state says employees of the Maui Fresh Fish, which owns the boat, were able to get it off the beach and tied to an offshore mooring early Thursday.

The boat was not damaged and there were no reported fuel leaks.
