HONOLULU -- The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced that President-elect Barack Obama will host a ball for his two home states, Illinois and Hawaii. The Obama Home States Inaugural Ball is invite-only and will likely be the only Hawaii event that he will be appearing at that night in Washington.Obama will be appearing at 10 balls after his inauguration on Jan. 20
The event is considered one of the more prestigious events and Obama supporters said it is significant that Hawaii was included."We claim Barack as our own. Clearly he's from Illinois. At this point now, he's moving to D.C. and there's been this back and forth where's his home state. So, this event dealt with that problem in a political way, which is both have it together," Hawaii for Obama Director Andy Winer said. The director of the Hawaii for Obama campaign said there is also ball at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel the night of the inauguration for people who cannot go to Washington.Obama will be sworn in before noon in Washington, so other supporters are organizing breakfasts and TV viewing parties back here in Hawaii.
