Mayor signs Honolulu beach smoking ban into law
$100 for first offense; $200 for second offense within a year
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed a bill into law Monday that will ban smoking at some of the most popular beaches and parks on Oahu.
The bill bans smoking at Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Beach Park, Kapiolani Park, Kuhio Beach Park, Sandy Beach Park and all sandy areas of Ala Moana Regional Park.
The ban is effective immediately. The fine for the first offense is $100. You will need to pay $200 if you have a second offense within a year. A fine of $500 will given for subsequent violations.
"Everyone deserves to enjoy healthy and smoke-free public spaces, and that includes our beautiful beaches," Caldwell said.
