HART to cut $2.8 million in public outreach funds
Grabauskas shares public concern over too many subconsultants
The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation announced Tuesday HART will be cutting $2.8 million from its budget in public outreach expenditures.
CEO and Executive Director Dan Grabauskas told KITV4 News the agency will eliminate eight subconsultants, and cut the remaining two in half.
In addition, HART will eliminate two Parsons Brinkerhoff staff positions and reduce another to part-time status. That includes cutting the over $350,000 contract for Pro-Rail Blogger Doug Carlson. Recent comments on his blog have sparked concern his stance has become politically infused.
"I share the public's concern that we currently have too many subconsultants and staff in public involvement," said Grabauskas.
HART will also scale back its Olelo program and production and its newsletter which Grabauskas said would save a combined $255,000 annually.
