  • Unedited Biography From Candidate: Ed Case was born in Hilo on September 27, 1952, attended elementary and high schools in Hilo and Kamuela, and graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in 1970.

After graduation from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1975, he worked as a Legislative Assistant in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Representative and later U.S. Senator Spark Matsunaga who taught him the true essence of service to the public as an elected representative. Case moved on after three years, intent upon a career in elective politics.

He graduated from the University of California/Hastings College of Law in 1981, returned home to live in Manoa, and worked as a law clerk to Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice William Richardson whose mentoring exemplified a commitment to true public service and to the law as the means to a better society. In 1983 he began a 20-year law career at Carlsmith Ball and was elected in 1994 to the first of four terms in the State House of Representatives from Manoa.

In 2002, he made the difficult decision to leave the state legislature and run for Governor, but fell short in the primary election by about 1% of the vote. Six days later, the death of the legendary Congresswoman Patsy Mink created a vacancy in Hawaii's Second Congressional District. Case ran for the honor to succeed her and won two ensuing special elections to fill the vacancy. He was re-elected to a third term in 2004 announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in January 2006.
