The debate is the only scheduled live television debate between the two candidates.

"I welcome debates and believe that at the heart of good government is an informed electorate. One of the best ways for voters to learn about candidates and their abilities is through an honest exchange of ideas and solutions," Hannemann said.

"I believe that the people deserve an honest comparison of our experience and qualifications to be the next mayor, and I look forward to facing my opponent on the key issues of the campaign," Bainum said.

The debate format must still be formalized, but it will include questions from a panel of reporters from KITV 4 News and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and questions from the public.
