Alan Keyes Lashes Out At Cheney's Gay DaughterGOP Candidate Labels Homosexuality 'Selfish Hedonism'POSTED: 2:52 pm EDT September 1, 2004 NEW YORK -- Alan Keyes, the Maryland Republican seeking a U.S. Senate seat in Illinois, is coming under fire for comments about homosexuality. In an interview Monday night with a satellite radio station that provides programming targeting gays and lesbians, Keyes called homosexuality "selfish hedonism" and said Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter, Mary, is a sinner. Liz Cheney, Mary's sister, refused to comment Wednesday during an interview on CNN. The Log Cabin Republicans, a gay and lesbian organization, denounced Keyes' remark -- calling it a new low for Keyes. Keyes is a former talk show host and twice ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in Maryland. When informed of Keyes' comments about Mary Cheney, Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said the comments were "inappropriate."
