Governor Calls For Political Ad To Be Pulled
Gov. Lingle Calls Ad 11th-Hour Smear
Republican Gov.Linda Lingle is fuming over a 30-second television commercial that criticizes her administration.“I am not going sit by and let others to rewrite history,” Lingle said. The ad throws a spotlight on an empty chair while an announcer voices over the visual.“Come on, Duke Aiona in the governors chair? Not when he did nothing when Aloha Airlines crashed leaving 3,000 of our neighbors out of work. Not when his administration violated the law, sinking the Superferry,” the announcer said. “The assertion in this Democratic Party smear piece is that we did nothing. It's simply false. It is a lie. It has no basis in fact and they should take it down immediately,” said Lingle. “The second point in their aid is that our administration did nothing while the super ferry failed. It is a blatant lie not based on facts and it is an attempt to smear me and my administration and Lt. Gov. Aiona."“I have to disagree with her. We don’t think these are a smear at all. We think they are right on. These ads we believe they are very clear it .They enunciate what happened during the Lingle-Aiona record and literally the ads speak for themselves,” said Democrat Party Chairman Dante Carpenter.Lingle also maintained that unlike previous administrations, Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona was included in key policy discussions.“He was with me in all major decisions. He didn’t always agree with me in every decision, but the two I mentioned today he was part of the discussions and well aware and weighing in,” Lingle said.Lingle also called on Sen. Dan Inouye and Neil Abercrombie to get the ad pulled.“If Neil Abercrombie had any character he would condemn the ad,” Lingle said.Abercrombie’s campaign said he would defer to the party.
