The two top Democrats running for Hawaii governor received endorsements on Thursday.

The Hawaii Carpenters Union announced it is endorsing Mufi Hannemann for governor. The union represents 7,000 carpenters and drywallers.

The union cited the former Honolulu mayor's decision on issues such as building rail transit for Oahu as one of the reasons for its endorsement.

The Board of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association announced it is backing Neil Abercrombie. The group represents the state's technology industry.

HVCA President Bill Spencer said it is the group's first endorsement of a candidate.
