Heidi Bornhorst biography

Heidi Bornhorst is a landscape consultant who specializes in native Hawaiian and other sustainable plants. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Horticulture and a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Hawaii. She gained national and international experience through internships in botanic gardens on Kauai, in Philadelphia, and in England.

She was hired as an educator and administered a McArthur grant with National Tropical Botanical Garden, while pursuing her Master’s degree in Horticulture and Certificate in Public Administration.

Bornhorst has been Director of the Honolulu Botanic Gardens and Landscape Director for the Hale Koa Hotel. She was a volunteer in the Honolulu Botanic Gardens while still in high school. She interned in major botanical gardens on Kauai, Philadelphia and England.

She was a tour driver for E Noa Tours and a sales representative for Nani Makana. She owns her own business, Heidi Bornhorst Landscape Consultant.

This is Ms Bornhorst’s first entry into elective office, but she has been an active community participant. She is on the board of the Kapiolani Park Preservation Society, Scenic Hawaii, Friends of Honolulu Botanical Gardens, Share-the-Care for ALS Violet Jones –Medusky, and Kaulunani, which distributes funds for education and urban forestry.

She surfs, hikes, and is learning stand up surfing.

She believes membership in the City Council will give her more opportunity to keep Honolulu a dynamic, livable, beautiful, and healthy place to live.
