2008 HONOLULU -- President-elect Barack Obama and his family arrived on Oahu Saturday afternoon for a 10-day visit before heading to Washington to take office.Obama's private jet touched down just after 3 p.m.There are no public events scheduled during his trip to the islands. He is expected to spend most of his time relaxing a bit before the inauguration next month.Unlike previous visits that the Obama entourage used a private jet, he and the future first family traveled in a charted United Airlines 767.Obama, his wife Michelle and their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, are getting a break from cold weather and will enjoy balmy trades for the next week and a half.It is Obama's third trip to the islands this year. He made it to Oahu for a vacation in August and again in October to visit his dying grandmother.Insiders said Obama and his family will hold a private funeral service for his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, while they are in Hawaii. However, officials with the National Memorial of the Pacific at Punchbowl Cemetery said nothing had been finalized. The president-elect is said to be vacationing here with family friends who made separate travel arrangements. There was very little fanfare for his arrival. No politicians greeted Obama as he walked off the plane. His staff wants to keep this as low key a visit as a president-elect can possibly have. The Obamas left the airport area shortly after the plane landed and headed to Kailua where they will be staying during their vacation.
