Hawaii Democratic Party officials on Thursday announced they will hold an inaugural ball here in the islands.

The event will be held Tuesday Jan. 20 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

Tickets will be $250 per person and $1,000 for VIP table service. The event is a fundraiser for the Democratic Party.

"We'rve very happy that we're going to be able to accommodate hundreds and maybe thousands of people who want to commemorate the swearing in of Barack Obama, but aren't able to make the trip to Washington D.C.," Hawaii Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz said.

Tickets are on sale now through the Democratic Party. The dress will be what the party called "island elegant."

There is also a ball being hosted in Washington by the Hawaii State Society following the inauguration at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
