Singer Bobby Brown was released from an Atlanta hospital for an undisclosed medical reason Wednesday, and was sprung from jail at the same time.
Brown began serving an eight-day jail sentence after surrendering Friday in DeKalb County, Ga., to satisfy an arrest warrant for six-year-old drunken-driving charges.
Brown was originally arrested in April 1996 by an officer who alleged that the singer was driving his red Mercedes-Benz erratically. Brown was charged with drunken driving, speeding, no proof of insurance and failure to maintain a lane.
A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office says Brown has also been released from jail Wednesday under a policy that reduces sentences by 25 percent for good behavior.
A spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office say Brown, 33, was taken from the jail to Grady Memorial Hospital around 3 a.m. Tuesday. She declined to give details, saying inmates' medical information is confidential.
In addition to Brown's jail time, State Court Judge Wayne W. Purdom ordered Brown to complete 240 hours of community service, and pay a $2,000 fine and $800 in court costs.
Brown, who is married to pop star Whitney Houston, was arrested Nov. 7 on unrelated charges that include speeding and marijuana possession.
