Blackhawks Crush Oilers To Post Sixth Straight Win

POSTED: 9:05 pm HST November 21, 2009

(Sports Network) - Jonathan Toews scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist, as the Chicago Blackhawks won their sixth straight game with a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to nine games for the Blackhawks, who have won six consecutive games for the first time since the club ripped off nine victories in a row from December 7-28 of last year. John Madden and Kris Versteeg also scored for Chicago, which got 25 saves from Cristobal Huet.

"We have been playing solid the last few games," said Huet. "We have some very good goal scorers who can put the puck in the net."

Dustin Penner had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who have lost five of six. Sheldon Souray had the other score for Edmonton, which got 25 saves from Jeff Deslauriers.

"We just got behind early and we tried forcing plays. We weren't making very good decisions in the neutral zone," said Souray.

Toews scored just 3:50 into the first period to give Chicago the early edge, but Souray lit the lamp just 35 seconds later to tie the tilt at one.

Versteeg's backhander at the 7:20 mark and Kane's wrister with 7:27 remaining gave the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead after one frame.

Madden's goal at the 11:02 mark of the second made it 4-1. The Oilers had a goal called off at the end of the second.

Penner and Toews scored in the final frame to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

Kane has amassed five goals and eight assists during his point streak...Edmonton's starting goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin missed the game due to back spasms.
