Bills Re-Sign Anthony Thomas

POSTED: 10:45 am HST March 12, 2007

(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Bills have re-signed running back Anthony Thomas, just days after trading Willis McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens.

Thomas, a two-time 1,000-yard rusher, joined the Bills last season and ran for 378 yards with two touchdowns in a reserve role behind McGahee. He also caught 22 passes for 139 yards.

With McGahee sidelined because of a rib injury last November, Thomas stepped in and rushed for 109 yards on 28 carries against eventual Super Bowl champion Indianapolis.

The 29-year-old Michigan product was selected in the second round of the 2001 draft by the Chicago Bears, then coached by current Bills coach Dick Jauron.

Thomas finished with 1,183 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie year and also broke the century mark in 2003 with 1,024 yards. He left Chicago after four seasons and spent an unproductive 2005 with New Orleans.

In 76 NFL games, including 41 starts, Thomas has run for 3,802 yards with a 3.8-yard average and 23 touchdowns.
