Decision Would Not Remove Alcohol From Tailgaters Until Next Season

The Aloha Stadium Authority voted unanimously Tuesday to ban alcohol from the parking lot.

It all started a few months ago when Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona said he'd like to see alcohol banned inside and outside the stadium. This came after some rowdy behavior and fights were blamed on intoxicated fans.

The next step for the ban is a public hearing that would likely happen in December.

The ban would only be for University of Hawaii and high school football games. The ban would not be in effect for the NFL's Pro Bowl or concerts.

There was some concern that the ban would cut into attendance at UH games. UH Athletic Director Herman Frazier said the school will have to do a better job of marketing the games.

The ban would not affect the beer sold at concessionaires inside the stadium. The stadium's beer vendors have contracts in place until 2011.
