Public Memorial Set For Mayor FasiHonolulu Hale To Host Service For Late Oahu LeaderPOSTED: 4:36 pm HST February 8, 2010 HONOLULU -- A public memorial for the late Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi will be held at City Hall next month, officials announced on Monday.The memorial is scheduled for March 3 in the courtyard of Honolulu Hale."I'm happy to report that the Fasi family has taken me up on my offer to hold a memorial service for Mayor Fasi at Honolulu Hale," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in a written statement. "We want to provide a fitting tribute to Mayor Fasi, who left such a lasting imprint on our city. We're working closely with the Fasi ohana to make sure this memorial program meets with their wishes."The city is still working out details of the service with the Fasi family, officials said.Hannemann ordered flags at all City and County of Honolulu buildings to be flown at half-staff through the conclusion of the memorial service to honor Fasi.The city has draped black bunting across the main entrance to Honolulu Hale and a black ribbon with the flag of the mayor outside the entrance to the mayor's office to signify the city in mourning.Fasi died last week at the age of 89. He led the county for 22 years in seven terms, longer than any mayor in Honolulu's history.He is credited with establishing the bus, satellite city hall and neighborhood board systems.
