The Coast Guard is working to free a 734-foot vessel that ran aground off Barbers Point Harbor on Friday morning.

The Liberian-flagged Voge Trader grounded at about 7:25 a.m. near the entrance to the harbor on approach, officials said.

The vessel is not blocking the harbor, but teams working to free the ship are blocking the channel from vessels leaving and entering, the Coast Guard said.

"We are coordinating closely with the state of Hawaii and the vessel's owners to ensure any potential pollution threat is mitigated," Cmdr. Bob McFarland said. "We are hopeful we will have a more accurate picture of the vessel's situation soon and we will move forward expeditiously with a salvage operation to ensure minimal impact to the environment and port."

No one was injured, officials said.
