Honolulu fire dispatch then dispatched a second alarm to assist in firefighting efforts.

City and county records show the property was a two-story, five-bedroom home originally built in 1939, with an assessed value of $1,055,000. The home is a total loss.

"Someone said they heard an explosion," area resident Sue Stagner said. "It looks like something quick happened."

Firefighters maneuvered through narrow streets in this older neighborhood as they struggled to keep the flames contained.

"The hydrants are further apart, it's steeper and windier road. It's a very steep driveway," Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from damaging other homes.

It will be a challenge to figure out what caused the fire because it destroyed everything, fire investigators said.
