The man accused of running over and killing a woman in a McDonald's drive-through lane made his initial appearance before a Circuit Court judge Tuesday morning.

Albert Birmingham, 36, is charged with first-degree negligent homicide and one count of failure to render aid.

Birmingham is accused of slamming into Raelynn Adams, 20 of Waianae, and her 15-year-old friend early Sunday morning in the drive through lane at the Nanakuli McDonald's, Honolulu police said.

Adams died from her injuries when Birmingham accelerated the SUV he was driving, crushing her under the tires, according to court documents.

He then fled the scene and was arrested when police found him hiding in his parked car a few blocks away, court documents said.

Police said Birmingham was apparently upset Adams and her friends kept him waiting for his fast food and ran them over when they got out of their car to confront him.

Some of Adams family attended the court hearing Tuesday, still trying to make sense of her death.

"There's questions. We're looking for answers but right now all I can say is I'm looking for closure, so I can put my niece to rest," said Adams' uncle, Andrew Adams.

Birmingham's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

His bail is set at $150,000.
