MARINES CORPS BASE HAWAII, Hawaii -- Marines Corps Base Hawaii held a memorial for 10 men who died in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
The message from soldiers and family was to never forget these American heroes, who were members of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Regiment.

During that time, soldiers worked with the Afghan police and military.
"They're caring men they took care of them they protected the innocent they built things and they also defeated their enemy many, many times," Lt. Col. Patrick Cashman said.
"He always asked me if we were proud of him and always make sure I said yes, always," Guzman Rivera's mother, Velma Torres, said.
Torres spoke to her son just days before he died.
"He said that he was eating really good and loved the food and he was working hard, really hard," Torres said.
She was just one family member who attended the service to honor the lives of the fallen heroes and find closure through stories of fellow service members.
"It's also important that the Marines get to see their families to talk to their families to see that these are whole men not just what they saw as a Marine, but whole lives that they sacrificed for them," Cashman said.
"We need to continue praying for our troops and never forget our heroes," Torres said.
