The National Weather Service on Tuesday extended a wind advisory for parts of Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and the Big Island.

The advisory was extended until 8 p.m.

Gusts of up to 30 mph whipped through the islands.

The strong winds blew the newly installed roof off a home in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday afternoon.

The advisory covers Oahu South Shore, North Shore, Koolau, Central Oahu, Molokai, Leeward Lanai, Makai Lanai, Mauka Maui, Central Valley and South Big Island.

A high-pressure system north of the islands is generating the strong and gusty trade winds, forecasters said. The winds will weaken after sunset, they said.

A wind advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

The NWS also issued a small craft advisory for the Hawaiian coastal waters.
