A tour helicopter was damaged but everyone on board was safe after the pilot issued a mayday mid-flight near Maui on Monday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the helicopter landed in a field half a mile east of Kahului Airport at about 12:30 p.m.

Blue Hawaiian operates the sightseeing tour.

The FAA said the helicopter had a pilot and six passengers on board when an emergency warning light went off.

Officials said the helicopter sustained minor damage to its tail boom when it landed, but none of the seven people on board was injured.
