HONOLULU -- Police opened a negligent homicide investigation on the Big Island after a 7-year-old girl was killed during a hayride on Halloween.

Emily Midgley was run over by a trailer towed by a she jumped off of during the end the ride, police said.

It happened during a function at Ocean View Evangelical Community Church just after 7 p.m.

Paramedics treated the girl and took her to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
