On Maui, 911 phone service was restored and a brush fire brought under control.

The flames broke out inland of Maalaea Harbor at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. No injuries have been reported.

Authorities said the fire damaged telephone wires, causing the temporary disruption in 911 services for some areas. The fire had damaged Hawaiian Telcom's fiber, but officials said service to West Maui was restored by 4:45 p.m.

Smoke and flames also closed a section of Pali Road along Honoapi'I'lani Highway, but the road was reopened at about 2 p.m. Officials said drivers could expect slow traffic throughout the evening.

The fire burned about 5 acres. The cause is under investigation.
