Group Says Donations Saved Kailua Fireworks

Donors Give $53,000 For Holiday Tradition

POSTED: 1:34 pm HST June 26, 2009

A group trying to save the annual Kailua 4th of July fireworks show said donors have given enough for an even longer pyrotechnics performance.

A number of businesses and individuals raised more than $53,000 with more still coming in, Brooke Gramann said. The group hoped to raise $42,000 to $45,000 originally.

People and organizations donated anywhere from $1 to $15,000, Gramann said. She said there was enough money donated to have a longer than normal pyrotechnics show.

The show will go on as usual at 8 p.m. with an air show at 6 p.m.

The group pushing to save the fireworks show plans to wave signs to thank the public on Saturday.
