The families of one of the suspects that involved in the death of a good Samaritan trying to break up a Waikiki fight apologized Tuesday.

Two young women, one of them seven months pregnant, were crying after their boyfriend's made the first appearance in court in the case.

Police charged Keli'i Acasia, 19, with second-degree murder and Benjamin Pada, 18, with robbery and assault charges.

Pada grabbed a purse from a woman sitting on Waikiki Beach just after midnight Saturday, police said.

A fight broke out after the man she was with caught Pada by Kalakaua and Paoakalani avenues.

Witnesses said that Ned Nakoa, 58, tried to break it up. They said Acasia punched and kicked Nakoa until he laid motionless on the ground.

The arrested men's families were in court. Pada's uncle and father both expressed remorse.

"I just like to apologize to the family and the people that was hurt with this... with this young men. They made a mistake. I cannot say how bad I feel towards that man that passed away," Pada's uncle, Tony, said.

"I just like the truth come out. I like everybody know what really went happen. It's not like they went out there and planned this stuff. Things just went happen," Pada's father, Ben, said.

Both girlfriends were there the night of the attack.

Off camera, Pada's girlfriend said that Acasia thought Nakoa had hit his girlfriend during the melee.

Authorities are holding Acasia on $1 million bail and Pada on $50,000.
