A 25-year-old California man faces up to 10 years in prison over a single punch.

Ryan Carrillo was convicted of first-degree assault on Monday morning by a state judge.

Carrillo had been charged with attempted murder for his attack from behind on Jesse Greenwood in front of a Waikiki nightclub last year.

The victim suffered permanent brain damage.

The judge found that Carrillo did not intend to kill, only to do serious bodily harm. So, he found Carrillo guilty of the lower charge of assault.

Sentencing is set for July.
