Kalihi Water Line Break

Water Break Floods Kalihi Neighborhood

POSTED: 2:41 pm HST May 19, 2008
UPDATED: 7:02 am HST May 20, 2008

Construction teams cut into a water pipe in Kalihi on Monday that caused a fountain that flooded a nearby store and roadway.

It happened on the 600 block of North King Street near Desha Lane at 11:41 a.m.

Water from the puncture in an 8-inch water line streamed into a grocery store.

The problem prompted police to close all but one lane of King Street in the Honolulu-bound direction. Two lanes were already closed for sewer repairs.

Repair should last into the night, according to a spokeswoman from the Board of Water Supply. She said no one lost water service because of the break.
