Work is under way to replenish a Windward Oahu beach that is slowly eroding.

City crews on Thursday transplanted sand near the Lanikai side of Kailua Beach to where there is little beach left.

The bulldozers are clearing sand from the nearby canal and using it to build the beach back up, officials said.

Erosion along the beach is more significant at this time of year, Park and Recreation Director Les Chang said.

The effort to restore the beach is a coordinated task between the city and state.
