Fujikawa Only Hawaii Player To Make Sony CutWie's Fails To Make PGA Cut AgainPOSTED: 6:56 am HST January 13, 2007 HONOLULU -- While Michelle Wie, 17, might be the most talked about teen golfer from Hawaii, it was Moanalua's Tadd Fujikawa that stole the show at the Sony Open on Friday.Fujikawa, who just turned 16 this week, shot a 4-under 66 to become the youngest player in 50 years to make the cut on the PGA Tour. The teens round put him at 3-under and ahead of players like Vijay Singh who won last week at the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Kapalua.Fujikawa is one of, if not, the smallest player at the tournament, standing just 5 feet 1 inches tall. A large crowd cheered on the player from Moanalua High School around the course and made a loud roar when he sunk an eagle putt on No. 18.He carded one eagle, four birdies and two bogeys in his second round. He splashed onto the national spotlight when he qualified to play in the U.S. Open at Wingfoot last year.Wie, however, did not have nearly as much to enjoy about her first tournament of 2007. Wie shot a 6-over 76 on Friday to finish at 14-over, missing the cut with her worst performance at the tournament in four tries. Previously she had not missed the cut by more than seven strokes. She struggled at the end of last season."I have a lot of game, it's just not showing right now. When I get it to come out, I'm going to be fine," she said. While she may not be playing at the Sony Open this weekend she said she will be cheering for Fujikawa."I've never played with him or talked with him," Wie said. "It's great being how young he is. I'm rooting for him."Besides Fujikawa, no other Hawaii player made the cut. PGA Tour players Dean Wilson and Parker McLachlin missed the chance to play in front of family and friends at home by one shot.Kevin Hayashi fell six shots short of the cut. David Chin and Abe Mariano finished behind Wie. Copyright 2007 by TheHawaiiChannel.com. The Associated Press contributed to this report. All rights reserved.
