The Hawaii Commemorative Quarter Commission on Thursday decided on five designs for the U.S. Mint's 50 State Quarters Program.

The main themes include King Kamehameha, surfing and hula.

Members are still trying to decide if the quarter should have the state motto on it or the word "aloha." They are trying to envision what the designs will look like as a small coin.

"They've been looking at these drawings and saying, 'Wow, you'll be able to see the lines and words when it's tiny.' It makes a difference in making the committee to think about the end result," commission chairman Jonathan Johnson said.

There are several more steps in the process.

The governor will make the final decision in April and the public should be able to get the Hawaii quarter in 2008.
